Lot 16-314. Moche Warrior Bottle.

Moche Warrior Bottle. A choice Moche bottle from Peru, ca. 500 – 700 AD. This highly burnished blackware vessel is 6-1/4” high and features an ornately attired supernatural warrior on one side and the primary deity Ai Apaec on the other. The warrior is armed with club and shield, is adorned with a complex headdress and is surrounded by rays, perhaps a reference to the sun. Ai Apaec appears as an agricultural deity, holding plants in both hands and wearing attire made entirely from beads, perhaps meant to represent huge corn kernels. Intact, good mineral deposits.
