It is with great pleasure that we announce the creation of Agora Auctions, Inc. Agora Auctions (agoraauctions.com) has just launched the first of what will be a regular electronic auction of ancient and medieval coins which will take place every three weeks. Our first auction is currently running and will close November 26th starting at 12:00pm EST. All 351 lots are listed with low estimates. Based in the United States, the company is run by Tom Mullally (Senior Numismatist and Auction Administrator), Matthew Richter (President and CFO) and Alfredo De La Fe (Vice President, Numismatist and Chief Technology Officer). The focus of our auctions will be Ancient, Medieval and World coins and provenanced antiquities. However, we plan on expanding into other collecting areas. Our first two sales will include a selection of Roman Republican coins from the Goodman collection; one of the most important published collections of Roman Republican coins originally sold in CNG Sale 43-47 and Triton I in 1997 (these coins were not included in the 1997 sales). Over the next several sales we will be offering a selection from a collection which was assembled in the 1940's-1960's. This collection includes several rarities, coins from the Mabbott collection and other important sales. There are also several collectable architectural types, a few very high grade Severan and Gordian era sestertii as well as a nice selection of Pre-Columbian, Egyptian and other ancient artifacts.
