Roman Frog Lamps
A pair of Roman ‘frog’ lamps from Egypt, 3rd - 4th Century AD, the first is in a crème ware and rather large, the body of lentoid shape, the nozzle rounded, the wide shoulders decorated with raised circles and hatched bands, star on the nozzle above a double curved line. On base, an incised circle enclosing 6 indented lines. L: 4 ½” (11.6 cm). The second of light orange ware, the lentoid body with long spout with spade-shaped nozzle. The shoulders are decorated with a laurel-wreath, the base with an ‘I’ within a low ring base. L: 4 ¼” (11 cm). Both are intact with light deposits. Ex Orange County private collection.
