Lot 32-199. Zeno. Second reign, A.D. 476-491. Æ 2. Constantinople mint, for use at Cherson. Very Rare.

Zeno. Second reign, A.D. 476-491. Æ 2 (19.0 mm, 3.53 g, 7 h). Constantinople mint, for use at Cherson. Very Rare. DN ZENO PERPET AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / SALVS REPVBLICA , Leo standing right, holding standard and globe, foot on captive; CON in exergue. RIC 948; LRBC 2277. Fine, green patina.

Although both Sear and Dumbarton Oaks attribute this type to the Constantinople mint, the vast majority of these coins have been found in southern Ukraine, in the Crimean region. They were most likely struck in Constantinople for use in Cherson.
