Gozo Island is located off the southern coast of Malta. Napoleon conquered the island in 1798 and controlled it until 1802. During this time, foreign coins, especially those from the UK and Sicily circulated on the island. The countermarks were applied to create legal trade tokens. These tokens are quite rare.
