Commodus. A.D. 177-192. AR denarius (17.0 mm, 2.60 g, 1 h). Rome mint, Struck A.D. 190. M COMM ANT P FEL AVG BRIT P P, laureate head right / FIDEI COH PM TR P XVII COS VI, Fides standing left, holding grain ears and standard. RIC 220; RSC 127; BMCRE 298. aVF, irregular flan. Scarce.

Struck after the fall of the despised Praetorian Prefect, Cleander. Cleander was originally a slave in Rome but rose to be an official in the imperial household. He was known to have sold several official offices including: the Roman Senate, military commands, governorships and even consulships. One of the consuls appointed by Cleander was the future emperor, Septimius Severus.
