Chimu Griton from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. An excellent Chimu griton (screamer) vessel from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. This nicely detailed example is 7" long and depicts a muca with extensive decor along the top of the chamber. The animal is molded in relief and the small handle indicates its functional use as a container for water ceremonies. In perfect condition, with good mineral deposits. Ex Gallatin estate. Cf. Schjellerup Chimu Pottery page 13, for similar from the National Museum of Denmark. Value range: $400 - $500..
