Q. Caecilius Metellus. 130 B.C. AE quadrans (17.2 mm, 3.58 g, 3 h). Rome mint. Head of Hercules right, wearing lion's skin headdress; three pellets behind / Q·MET / ROMA, prow of galley right, three pellets to right. Crawford 256/4a; Sydenham 510b. aVF, black patina with sandy highlights. Scarce. Ex RBW collection (not in previous sales); Ex Triton I, lot 1221.

Normally, the deckhouse top is flat, this example has a triangular-peaked roof. This is a very rare variety of a common quadrans.
