Gaius Caligula. A.D. 37-41. AE sestertius (34.0 mm, 22.92 g, 6 h). Rome mint, struck A.D. 39/40. C CAESAR DIVI AVG PRON AVG P M TR P III P P around, PIETAS in exergue, Pietas seated left, holding patera and resting elbow on small draped figure / DIVO AVG/S C in two lines across field, emperor, veiled and togate, standing left, sacrificing out of patera over garlanded altar; victimarius holding bull for sacrifice and attendant holding a patera standing on either side; garlanded hexastyle temple of Divus Augustus in background, with decorated pediment. RIC 44; BN 104; BMC 58† . Fine, yellow-brown surfaces, porous.
