Lot 50-329. Chupicuaro Libation Bowl from Mexico, ca. 400 - 100 BC.
Chupicuaro Libation Bowl from Mexico, ca. 400 - 100 BC. A lovely kidney-shaped Chupicuaro libation vessel from Mexico, ca. 400 - 100 BC. It is 5-1/4" in diameter, with one side indented to create a thumb hold, similar to Olmec “helmet” bowls. This red-rimmed bowl is a transitional type of the red-on-buff variant. The upper section and most of the interior is covered with a highly burnished, deep red slip; the remainder is smooth white clay. In excellent condition with nice dendrites. Ex Selman estate. Value range: $175- $300.
