An early Near Eastern marble stamp seal. Strung with Sumerian stone and shell beads. The seal, c. 4th Millennium BC, of pyramidal shape with suspension hole near top, the base incised with a stylized motif typical of early seals from Mesopotamia and Syria. 32 x 24 x 32mm. Minor chipping on one edge, attractive deposits. The seal is strung on a collar composed of Sumerian black steatite and white shell beads, late 4th Millennium BC. Necklace length: 18" (45.6 cm) and nicely strung on modern cord and clasp. Ex J. L. Malter collection. Est. Value $800 - $900.
