Septimius Severus. A.D. 193-211. AR denarius (19.2 mm, 3.18 g, 11 h). Rome mint, struck A.D. 203. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right / INDVLGENTIA AVGG, IN CARTH, the Dea Caelestis seated facing on lion galloping right over rushing waters, holding thunderbolt and scepter. RIC 266; BMCRE 335; RSC 222. VF.

This coin type was issued to commemorate numerous renovations and additions to the city of Carthage, most importantly, a new aqueduct. Dea Caelestis was the patron goddess of Carthage.
