Cn. Gellius. 138 B.C. AR denarius (18.3 mm, 3.79 g, 4 h). Rome mint. Helmeted head of Roma right; X behind; all within laurel wreath / CN·GEL / ROMA, Mars driving galloping quadriga right, holding shield, and grasping Nerio standing beside him. Crawford 232/1; Sydenham 434; RSC Gellia 1. VF. Scarce.

Nerio was an ancient Roman war goddess and the personification of valor, she was the wife of the war god Mars The mythology of the goddess may be of Sabine origin although little is written about her. This coin type is the only known depiction of Nerio.
