Sicily, Messana. Tyrants of Rhegion: Anaxilas and son. AE 13 (13.18 mm, 1.95 g, 2 h). 480-461 A.C.. Youthful male head left / Hare leaping right, two pellets beneath; all within laurel-wreath. Unpublished?. VF. Very Rare.

The city of Messana was ruled by the tyrants of Rhegion - Anaxilas and then his son. - In 461 B.C. the Messanians regained their independence. In 396 B.C. Messana was destroyed by the Carthaginians under Himilco, a blow from which it recovered slowly during the 4th Century
