Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III the Great. 336-323 B.C. AR tetradrachm (26.23 mm, 16.79 g, 10 h). Carrhae mint, struck 325-317 B.C. Struck by Antigonos I Monopthalmos. Head of Alexander as young Hercules right, wearing lion-skin headdress, paws tied at throat / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, name vertically downwards to right of Zeus Aetophoros enthroned left, right leg drawn back, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, [Σ] T; beneath throne Σ Ρ [ _ ] in monogram. Price 3803; Müller 1466. VF, lightly toned, surfaces slightly porous.
