Lot 7-166. Tiberius. A.D. 14-37. AR denarius. Rome. Mule of Augustus type.

Tiberius. A.D. 14-37. AR denarius (18.00 mm, 3.07 g, 6 h). Rome. Mule of Augustus type. TI CAESAR DIVI F AVG F AVGVSTVS, laureate head right / AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT, C L CAESARES, Gaius & Lucius standing front, each with a hand resting on a round shield, a spear, and in field above, lituus right, simpulum left, X between. cf. RIC 212; cf. BMCRE 538; cf. RSC 43d. aVF.

An interesting mule which has the obverse of Tiberius with a reverse type of Augustus. There is a spot on the reverse which could indicate a fourree (therefore, an ancient fake), however, the core appears to be silver.
