Manuel I Comnenus. 1143-1180. BI trachy (31.3 mm, 5.16 g, 7 h). Constantinople mint, struck 1167-1183. Christ, bearded, seated on throne, wearing nimbus, pallium and colobion; raising right hand in benediction, holds book of Gospels in left hand, star in left and right field; IC-XC in fields / MANOVHΛ ΔECΠOT, The Virgin, nimbate, and Manuel, both standing facing; the Virgin wears pallium and maphorium and crowns the emperor who wears divitision and loros, holding labarum and globus cruciger.
