Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III the Great. 336-323 B.C. AR drachm (16.5 mm, 3.96 g, 1 h). Kolophon mint, struck ca. 301-297 B.C. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; crescent over lion's head in left field, crab claw below throne. Price 1837 var. (lion over crescent); Müller 340 var. (same); cf. Roma 72, lot 318. Fine, scratches, spots of horn silver. Very rare.
