Chimu Griton Effigy. A choice Chimu zoomorphic griton (Screamer) effigy from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. This nicely detailed example is 4-3/4” long and depicts a muca with extensive décor along the top of the chamber. The small handle indicates its functional use as a container for water ceremonies. In perfect condition, with good mineral deposits. Ex Llerena collection. Cf. Schjellerup “Chimu Pottery”, page 13, for similar from the National Museum of Denmark. Value range $300 - $400.
