Shipibo Figural Jar. A superb Shipibo figural jar from the Upper Amazon region of Brazil or Peru, ca. 1950’s. This rare red example is 4-1/2" high, 6-1/4" wide and has a wonderful face incorporated into the side of the chamber. The influence of Andean ancestors is clearly recognizable in the facial characteristics. The traditional stylized decorative patterns are designed to imply clothing and ritual tattoos. The vessel is coated with the characteristic tree resin. Ex Boston estate. Value range $125 - $250.
