Paris mint, Dated E.E. 1889A / A.D. 1897 . legend in Ethiopian characters, Crowned and draped bust of Menelik II right / legend in Ethiopian characters // date in local numbers, Lion of Judah, crowned, walking left, left fore leg raised, carrying long cross with inscribed banner, facing towards viewer. KM 5; Y 9. EF, a couple smallish dark areas of field in lettering - coin does not appear to ever have been cleaned.
Menelik II's official title was "Lion of Judah", so there is a strong link between the obverse and reverse devices.
