Lot 10-250. Lot of Faience Offering Jars.

Lot of Faience Offering Jars. A lot of faience offering jars, Dynasty 26-30, c. 664 - 343BC, the first with cylindrical body, flat base and flared mouth. Intact the green glaze now a pale color. H: 1 5/8" (6.7 cm). The second piece is a group of four faience offering jars glazed together on a rectangular base, each with a raised lip. 2 ¼” x 2 3/8” x 1 3/8”. Two of the vessels have been reattached to the base, glaze now a pale green. A scarcer and more unusual type! Ex Thomas Collingwood collection, Philadelphia, acquired before 1970. The ancient Egyptian tomb often had a nearby chapel where the family or friends of the deceased could come to pay respects and leave offerings, often in terracotta or faience jars such as this example. Ex Orange County private collection. Value Range $400-$600.
