Alexius I Comnenus. 1081-1118. electrum histamenon nomisma (31.1 mm, 4.26 g, 6 h). Scyphate. Struck 1081-1092 (pre-reform). anepigraphic, Christ, nimbate, seated facing on square-backed throne, wearing pallium and colobium, raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in left hand; IC - XC to right and left in field / (faint, but should be:) + AΛЄIIω ΔЄCΠOT Tω KOMNHNω, crowned bust of Alexius facing, wearing jewelled chlamys and holding scepter with pelleted star at top and globus cruciger. SBCV 1893. Good VF, strike is exceptionally well centered in high relief for scyphate fabric; two deep edge cracks - at 2:00 and 6:00, no fabric missing - as is common in thin scyphate types in gold or electrum.
