Lot 11-207. Byzantine Bronze Strainer
Lot 11-207. Byzantine Bronze Strainer
A large bronze strainer with long handle, Byzantine, c. 6th - 8th Century AD, hammered from a single piece of metal. The bowl is punched with holes for draining and nicely incised with a central flower or rosette, within a circular border; enhanced with rows of hammered circles, each with a central pellet. The handle is of much thicker construction and decorated with the circle-pellet devices as well as two sets of incised parallel lines near the base; the end curled to allow suspension of the strainer when not in use. L: 19 1/8" (48.3 cm). Intact and an amazing state of preservation. Ex Los Angeles private collection. Value range: $700 $900
