Lot 12-029. Kingdom of Persis. Artaxerxes (Ardaxshir) II. Late 1st century B.C. AR hemidrachm.
Kingdom of Persis. Artaxerxes (Ardaxshir) II. Late 1st century B.C. AR hemidrachm (13.7 mm, 1.86 g, 6 h). Bearded bust left, wearing diadem and mural crown; monogram behind / King standing left, holding scepter and sacrificing at altar to left. Alram 574. gVF.
One of the fascinating things about this coin is that it is evidence that the Persians were the inventors of the "modern" (actually Medieval) crown. If you were to look at just the obverse you would not be faulted to think that this was a Medieval British coin!
