Crowned Imperial monogram of Cathrine II "The Great", splitting date (17-77) in fields; all within wreath / Large crown above crowned double-headed Russian eagle holding imperial staff and orb; E-M in field below, banner with denomination written in Cryllic beneath. KM 59.3. VF. During her reign, Catherine extended the borders of the Russian empire southward and westward to absorb New Russia, Crimea, Right-Bank Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Courland at the expense of two competing powers- the Ottoman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. All told, she added some 200,000 miles (518,000 km) to Russian territory.
