Maya Tetrapod. A fine Maya tetrapod plate from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 700 AD. This finely sculpted dish is 6” in diameter and is carried on the back of a turtle. The sides of the bowl are decorated with incised design panels and some post-firing pigment, the hollow legs contain rattles. Intact, with good mineral deposits.
