An Egyptian Bronze Uraeus Figure, Late Period. An Egyptian bronze Uraeus, Late Period, circa 664-332 B.C. Cast with a pronounced narrow head and arched eye sockets, the rearing cobra with typical flared hood: a large tang at the back, possibly for attachment to the frontal headdress of a large statue. 1 3/4 inches tall. Red and white glass inlays are intact. Ex Zurqieh.The Uraeus or "rearing cobra" was a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, and divine authority in ancient Egypt. The Uraeus is the symbol for the goddess Wadjet, one of the earliest Egyptian dieties, who is often depicted as a cobra. She was the patron and protector of all of Egypt and protector of kings.
