Tairona or Sinu Parrot Tumbaga Pendant, 1000-1500 AD. A very attractive tumbaga from the Tairona or Sinu culture in Columbia, ca. 1000-1500 AD. This tumbaga depicts a parrot perched upon a branch and wearing a necklace. 2" tall, 22.5 gms, with intact suspension loops. A very high quality tumbaga. Retail value $600-1200.Tumbagas are made from a naturally occurring alloy of gold and copper, typically around 30% gold and 70% copper. The parrot piece is slightly more yellow than the other, indicating a higher gold composition. Tumbagas are generally hollow, as are these two examples.
