Maya Polychrome Vase. An excellent Maya polychrome jar from the Copan area of Honduras, c. 400 – 800 AD. This ornately adorned vessel is 6-1/2” high and is decorated with several painted registers. The primary band consists of animated monkeys separated by linear designs. That is topped by a register of stylized monster heads and pyramid symbols. The rim band is a serpentine line. Intact, with strong mineral deposits and root marks. Ex Tribal Treasures Gallery. Cf. Robiczek “Copan”, plate 232, for similar from the Peabody Museum. Value range $835 - $1000.
