Chimu Silver Tupo. A large Chimu tupo from Peru, c. 1100 – 1450 AD. This superb silver mantle ornament is 10-3/4” long and is topped with a 3-7/8” diameter disk. The disk is decorated with repoussé designs hammered in the form of snail shells. The back side retains textile imprints and evidence of the nicely annealing technique used to manufacture the silver sheet. An exceptional example. Ex Gallatin estate. Value range $500 - $750.
