Lot 11-185. Coin Jewelry. Sterling silver pendant. Shekel of Tyre; 30 pieces of silver.
Coin Jewelry. Sterling silver pendant. Shekel of Tyre; 30 pieces of silver. A sterling silver prong pendant containing a silver shekel from Tyre from Phoenicia, considered as the most likely candidate for the type of coin Judas Iscariot received as payment for betraying Jesus. The obverse depicts the laureate bust of Melqart right, while the reverse portrays an eagle standing left on a ship's prow. The coin is dated year 33, which indicates it was struck in 94 or 93 B.C. The coin appears to have been fitted into the bezel in such a way as to have caused no damage. Dimensions: 51x37 mm, 24.04 g. Coin good very fine and nicely toned.
