Lambayeque Figural Vessel from Peru, ca. 700 - 1300 AD. A fine Lambayeque (Sican) figural vessel from Peru, ca. 700 - 1300 AD. This footed canteen-form blackware pitcher is 9" high and depicts a shaman with a pair of birds resting on his shoulders. The chamber is decorated with wave symbols arranged so that they also create a solar symbol, combining two of the force of life motifs. The surrounding band of step designs show this to be a vessel used in agricultural fertility rituals. Intact, with strong mineral deposits and trails. Ex Caravallo collection.
