Lot 6-387. Chavin Stone Mirror.
Lot 6-387. Chavin Stone Mirror.
Chavin Stone Mirror. A superb Early Chavin stone mirror from Peru, c. 1200 - 1000 BC. It is 2-3/8” in diameter and is made from the characteristic black anthracite stone. In excellent condition, with convex back, drilled suspension loop and expected signs of edge wear from usage. It is quite possible that this is a rare example from the late Wairajirca or Kotosh period of the Pre-Chavin Shillacoto. Cf. Seiichi Izumi "Bulletin No. 3", from Tokyo University, for similar examples from the Shillacoto site in Huanuco and a complete site report. Ex Espinoza estate. Value range $335 - $500.
