Lot 6-393. Chavin Stone Plate.
Chavin Stone Plate. An excellent Chavin stone plate from Peru, c. 1200 - 200 BC. This choice Cupisnique type example is 9-1/2" in diameter and is made from a beautifully speckled gray stone. The interior is convex and perfectly smoothed, with just the minor pitting expected from this type of stone, which has fine Hematite and Pyrite inclusions. The small rim chip occurred in antiquity. A great example. Ex Espinoza estate. Value range $1000 - $1500.
